GTA Tokyo Mobile Version

GTA Tokyo is a concept for a Grand Theft Auto game that was seriously considered by Rockstar Games in the early 2000s, but never made it to full development and was canceled. It was based on the map of Tokyo from Rockstar San Diego's Midnight Club 2, with some changes made. Project details:

Origin of the idea: Following the success of Grand Theft Auto 3, Rockstar co-founder Sam Houser became interested in the culture and atmosphere of Tokyo during several promotional trips to Japan.
Trademark registration: In December 2003, Take-Two Interactive registered the trademarks GTA: Tokyo and Grand Theft Auto: Tokyo, as well as other potential projects (GTA: Sin City, GTA: Bogota). All of these were later canceled in 2008.
Field research: Rockstar developers visited Tokyo, took photographs, studied areas of the city, and collected visual and cultural material for a possible game.

Despite the preparatory work that had been done, the project was deemed too complex to implement within the framework of the technology and concept of the series at that time, so further development never began.
